Brief description of course and learning outcomes:

The Diploma in Business Innovation Management is designed to develop and groom students in strategic thinking and analytical skills which are essential qualities for today's managers and executives. Students will acquire innovative entrepreneurship knowledge to stay current with industry trends. Students will learn to formulate business strategies and plans through practical modules and contemporary assessment methods, including examinations, individual assignments, group projects, and presentations. The business innovation management project module provides students with hands-on industry experience, enabling them to apply their skills in real-world situations.


Fundamentals of Economics for Business:

This module will allow students to develop knowledge and understanding of economic principles, and policies and show how they affect business operations. To be able to use economics theory to understand accounting decisions. At the end of this module students should be able to:

• Explain the nature of business and the economic environment.

• Describe the working of competitive markets.

• Describe the market structure and how it affects economic decisions.

• Identify the demand and the consumer.

• Explain and understand government policies affecting business decisions.

• Describe the supply decisions in a competitive market.

Business Functions and Operational Workflows:

This module will discuss business functions and the operations of the departments and workflow. It will highlight how companies employ a systematic organisation of resources into processes that transform materials, provide services, or process information to run an efficient organisation. At the end of this module students will be able to:

• Introduction to operational management.

• Explain the sequence of operations and the functions of an individual or teamwork within an organisation.

• Describe the conceptual framework of Operations Management.

• Apply decision-making skills to operational issues.

• Describe operational management as part of an organisation's strategic management system.

Talent and Professional Development in Business:

This module focuses on examining the disconnected nature of talent management in many organisations and how it affects the development of a talent strategy aligned with the achievement of a business's operations and strategy. The core rationale of any talent strategy should be to have a direct positive impact on the organisation's goals, the module looks at how Human Resources (HR) needs to move from a functional support role to one with a direct strategic impact on the business. By the end of this module, students will be able to:

• Define talent management and employee engagement for the success of any business.

• Discuss the development of human capital needs.

• Identify the processes to grow talent within organisation for new capabilities.

• Identify performance management ways to manage and direct learning

This module focuses on challenges and opportunities created by globalisation for companies. The module aims to provide students with conceptual tools and necessary skills to better understand and analyse the challenges and opportunities confronted by Companies when expanding abroad as well as home-based advantages. The module will help students to lead with a global mindset in the complex international environment. By the end of this module, students will be able to:

• Discuss the factors to determine the success of Companies in the global business environment

• Identify the key elements for home-based advantages with international operations.

• Apply generic international strategies.

• Identify the differences across countries using different frameworks.

• Identify the selected different markets and appropriate entry strategies.

Innovation and Technology Management:

This module aims to help learners develop a strong foundation pertaining to digital and innovation strategies. The module will cover various strategies that digital managers can adopt in introducing innovations to the marketplace and maximizing economic rents from them. At the end of this module students should be able to:

This module gives an overview of the marketing concepts and topics related to marketing such as marketing communications, branding and marketing pians that will allow a company to develop and launch their products and services. At the end of the module, students will be able to:

• Explain the changing marketing landscape.

• Describe the marketing strategy and marketing mix.

Financial and Budgeting Principles:

This module aims to allow students to gain knowledge and understanding of financial accounting and budgeting concepts in order to apply key financial accounting techniques and be able to use double-entry accounting techniques including the preparation of basic financial statements. At the end of this module students should be able to:

• Introduction to accounting.

• Describe the roles of the different branches of accounting.

• Explain the measuring and reporting financial position.

• Describe the accounting for limited companies.

• Explain the measuring and reporting of cash flows.

• Interpret financial statements.

• Explain the reporting of the financial results of groups of companies.

Strategic Management:

This module aims to provide students with the concepts and practice of strategic management, and the holistic way in which it draws upon a wide variety of managerial functions in its creation. It will also provide students with an understanding of the key theories and processes integral to the strategic management of organisations. At the end of this module students should be able to:

• Describe the 5 stages of the industry life cycle.

- Whardon World College Foundation Certificate in Business Management

- Matured applicants 30 years old and above without the academic pre-requisite but have 8 years of relevant working experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis

International Applicants

- Equivalent to Year 12 from the respective home country of the applicants

- Whardon World College Foundation Certification in Business Management

- Matured applicants 30 years old and above without the academic pre-requisite but have 8 years of relevant working experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis

- Non-native speakers of English will be given an English Proficiency test. Those who do not meet the required English standard will need to enrol for the Whardon World College’s Certificate in Standard English Course
